BIG SEVENTH INNING LEADS TO 7-5 BAYCATS WIN

by Sam Aucoin

BARRIE – The Barrie Baycats come from behind to beat the Thornhill Reds today 7-5. Barrie used eight pitchers with Christian Lazar – one of the new arms - getting the win, throwing two scoreless innings.

The Baycats offence took a while to get going but when they did, they produced a six run seventh inning. Canice Ejoh’s two run double was the knockout blow. Ejoh added a pair of stolen bases in the game, getting right back to where he left off in 2023.

The Reds got off to a great start thanks to their leadoff hitter, Kravis Batts. Batts reached base four times in the game, scoring three of Thornhill’s five runs. Reds starter Mack Major was dominant in his three innings of work, giving up only one hit.

New Baycats Ricky Phillips, Nolan Machibroda, and Zachary Orchard got in on the fun as well. Phillips made three incredible catches in the outfield along with scoring a run on two walks. Machibroda’s RBI single was his first as a Baycat, adding to the big seventh inning. Orchard was one of those who scored on Ejoh’s double, also picking up a pair of walks.

Carlos Sano, Cesar Rosado, Ryan Lacasse, and Christian Lazar all pitched in their first game as Baycats. Lazar picked up the win with two solid innings. Rosado and Sano showed off their velocity and presence on the mound, both throwing zeros. Lacasse worked out of trouble in his inning with some crafty off-speed pitches.

Evan Soules picked up the save throwing to Brandon Hillier, who usually comes out of the bullpen, but can play in the field from time to time. Hillier also pitched a scoreless inning.
