22U Baycats Make First Player Signing ahead of inaugural season
Barrie, ON – The 22U Barrie Junior Baycats are proud to announce their first signing in program history, Austin Boylan! The infielder, and Barrie resident has committed to NCAA Division One North Dakota State University to play collegiate baseball starting next fall.
“I'm absolutely thrilled for the opportunity to join the Barrie Baycats organization and play for my hometown team,” said Boylan. “This experience will help me prepare for North Dakota State University at the Division 1 level by facing more experienced players and by getting the chance to compete against and play alongside former pros.”
Boylan played with the Ontario Blue Jays last season, playing across the province and North America with trips to Indiana, Boston, and Louisiana. It was his 390-foot grand slam in a semi-final game in Boston – one of his three home runs in the tournament – that helped the Blue Jays win and go onto win the Prospect Select tournament.
“Austin excels in many skills and aspects of the game of baseball,” said 22U Baycats Manager Jeremy Uylenbroek. “Austin displays a good mental approach and demeanor while on the field [which] seems to fit our Baycats culture well.”
“Austin will be the face of the junior program for his first few years and we expect him to make an impact at the IBL level much sooner than later,” said Baycats president Josh Matlow. “Austin’s work ethic and hunger to learn is the exact type of player we are looking to build this program with.”
Once an aspiring young hockey player, Boylan is excited to make an impact not only with the 22U Baycats, but also the Intercounty Baseball League club as well.
“I can't wait to get started and help bring many more championships back to Barrie,” Boylan said.
“I've seen him grow and develop in the CPBL playing for team Ontario and the Ontario Blue Jays,” said Uylenbroek. “I am happy to be able to write Austin's name in our lineup and will look to him to help us win some games this upcoming season.”
“He will be a leader both on and off the field and we have extremely high expectations of him and the others coming in,” said Matlow. We are very excited about our youth pipeline, the future is bright for the Baycats!”
