Baycats Secure Fourth Consecutive Win, Defeat Maple Leafs 6-1

by Sam Aucoin

TORONTO – The Barrie Baycats have won four in a row after a 6-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Barrie’s offence scored early and the pitching held on in the late innings to secure yet another Baycats win over the Maple Leafs.

Frank Garcés continued to dominate, delivering seven strong innings with five strikeouts. His impeccable control was evident as he didn't issue a single walk, earning his fifth win of the season.

Canice Ejoh led off the ballgame with a home run, his fourth of the season, moving into a three way tie for the team lead with Hayden Jaco and Nolan Machibroda. Brad McQuinn drove in the second run in the second with a base hit that looped into left, scoring Kyle Maves.

The Baycats bolstered their advantage in the third inning courtesy of a Malik Williams two-run double, bringing home Jaco and Machibroda. The double by Williams made it 4-0 early on and was more than enough.

Brad Grieveson entered the game in relief, taking the mound for the final two innings. While he faced some trouble in the eighth inning, conceding a run, Grieveson managed to navigate through the inning, thanks to a line drive double play that was made at shortstop by Brandon Hernandez.
