RED SOX BEAT BAYCATS 9-8 IN BACK AND FORTH GAME

BRANTFORD – You can’t win them all and that is what happened this afternoon as the Barrie Baycats were defeated by the Brantford Red Sox 9-8 in a back and forth affair. Barrie went into the bottom of the ninth holding an 8-5 lead but Brantford came back to force extra innings and would eventually win on a David Alvarez walk off single.

Both starters were effective for the majority of their outings. Baycats starter Carlos Sano was excellent through five innings but ran into trouble in the sixth and was taken out. Jeremias Sucre, Sano’s counterpart, was solid as well, allowing three earned runs across five and two thirds.

Sano was in line for the loss however the Baycats stormed back in the top of the ninth. Down 5-3, they erupted for five runs. Ryan Rijo tied the game with a single, scoring Noel McGarry Doyle, then Brad McQuinn added on with a two run double. McQuinn was thrown out at third to end the frame.

Braedan Pakkala, who tossed a scoreless eighth, was sent back out for the ninth but the Red Sox were ready for whatever he threw at them. Graham Tebbit’s two RBI single made it a one run game and Matt Torresan tied the game with another base hit. Ryan Lacasse came in and was able to get the final out of the ninth forcing extra innings.

Unfortunately for Lacasse, the extra inning ghost runner was brought in on the first pitch he threw in the tenth. David Alvarez, who went four for six in the ballgame, delivered the winning run.

Red Sox win 9-8. The Baycats are now 9-5 on the season.
