GAME RECAP: Maple Leafs Score In Eighth Inning to Win Against Baycats

by Patrick Melbourne

BARRIE - It was a tough loss for the Barrie Baycats at home on Thursday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. After tying the game in the middle innings, the Baycats gave up two runs in the eighth inning, and the Maple Leafs won the game 7-5.

The Maple Leafs, known for their strong pitching and defense, were strong in both categories once again in this game. Starter Diego Dominguez went five innings, giving up four runs (three of those in the fifth), and relievers Dylan Jacober, Chris Nagorski, and Dustin Richardson went a combined four innings, giving up only one run.

On the Baycats pitching side, Jayson Aquino was solid. He went four innings, giving up four runs and striking out three. The bullpen was better, though - the combination of Evan Soules, Brandon Hillier, Chris Cox, and Brad Grieveson kept the team in the game.

The Maple Leafs were able to score twice in the top of the eighth due to a couple of Barrie errors, and the team from Toronto now improves to 2-1 on the season against the Baycats. The Maple Leafs and Baycats are both now 5-5 on the season.

On June 10, the Baycats will face the Hamilton Cardinals in Hamilton. The game will begin at 7:35 PM ET at CARSTAR Field at Bernie Arbour Stadium. You can get tickets here, and the game will be available live on the Hamilton Cardinals YouTube channel.
