BAYCATS DEFEAT JACKFISH 13-3
BARRIE — The Barrie Baycats came out with a big 13-3 win against the Welland Jackfish in a game that was supposed to be much closer. The Baycats used a pair of six-run innings to propel them to a win over first-place Welland.
It started early on with a Nolan Machibroda RBI double off Jackfish starter Brandon Marklund. Despite his team winning all of his starts this season, Marklund struggled and was charged with his first loss against a Baycats lineup that looked very prepared.
12 more runs for the home side crossed in the third and fourth innings combined and shortstop Brandon Hernandez was a big part of it. Hernandez finished the day going five for five with three runs scored and two RBI. Four more runs were driven in by Malik Williams who added two hits and two runs scored.
Juan Benítez got the start for Barrie. Matched up against a tough lineup, Benítez was solid, throwing six innings and holding Welland to just three runs. Ryan Lacasse and Brad Grieveson bridged the gap and shut down the Fish in the seventh and eighth innings. Carlos Sano closed things out in the ninth, working a 1-2-3 frame.
